Meet our Pastor and his family
Rev. Charles Copp (Pastor Chip) was installed as the new Pastor at Union Congregational Church, 265 West Britannia Street, Taunton, on Sunday, October 30. He and his wife, Laurel, and two children, Evalyn and Pheobe, relocated to Taunton in June from New Haven, CT where he attended Yale Divinity School.
Per Pastor Chip: “I’m excited about Jesus, and how he can transform every square inch of our Monday to Saturday lives. I’m eager to see God form local churches into places where people can safely meet him. My wife Laurel and I live with our two young daughters, Evalyn and Phoebe, here in Taunton. Although originally from Glenmoore in PA, just outside Philadelphia, moving to New England felt like coming home. We love the seasons, the history, the love for social justice, but most importantly all the people committed to and passionate about their town.”
Before coming to Union, Pastor Chip helped plant a new church in Danvers, MA where he learned community development is a small thing which makes a huge difference. Both he and his wife Laurel, who is a college chaplain, are both passionate about education. Pastor Chip received a Masters of Divinity from Gordon Conwell Seminary, and is in the process of a Sacred Theology Masters degree from Yale Divinity School, exploring America’s religious history, with a particular focus on the intersection of Christianity and community life in the 19th century.
Personally, he loves basketball and pretty much anything sports related, visiting national parks (of the 15 he has visited, the ones in Utah are hidden treasures) and being outdoors, good folk music (in the WUMB ilk), and dogs (they have a golden-doodle named Betty).
If you’re interested in God, looking for a church family, or have children, particularly in the Whittenton area, Pastor Chip warmly invites you to visit, join, or serve in what God’s doing at Union Church. If he can help you in anyway, please call him (508-824-0656).
